Well-written and interesting but not without its flaws. The setting is wonderfully realised, with the social structure and oppressive nature clearly shown. The story is interesting, if not original, but suffers from an unnecessary sub-plot and a contrived and unrealistic resolution.

An enjoyable read, and I would read another novel by Rob Smith, but I feel that this one had the potential to be better than it ultimately was.
