A nicely paced beginning to the novel introduces the story and the characters. Things aren’t over-explained and the approaching prospect of “Reversion” provides an interesting background. Sadly, with a third of the novel to go, it veers off into a globe-encompassing conspiracy and loses a lot of the interest it has built up.

Chabon received substantial praise for this novel and for the first two-thirds of the book I can see why. Disappointly the ending lets it down.
