This partial autobiography by Martin is a delightful read. As with his fiction he writes in an engaging style and says just enough, no more, no less. The book simply covers his career as a stand-up comic, starting with his initial steps on the path while working in Disneyland and continuing through a variety of places and circumstances. He doesn’t boast about his success, but merely documents it and his feelings towards it and, by the end, why he fell out of love with it. By the end of the book I could see why he wanted to stop, and why he hasn’t returned to stand-up, and I can understand it.
